The Simple Life

Some of the best memories from my childhood involve playing outside all day and seeing what kind of cool things we could come home with. Sometimes this was a little bunny from in the bushes on the canal... one time we came home with a new kitty from behind our cousin's house (Oscar!)... but often we ended up with a jar of tadpoles or little frogs or a tiny snake from the garden. (I played with boys, so there were no Barbies or dollhouses for me.) I have wondered since then why I never see frogs anymore. They used to be everywhere when we were small. So, when Ro and I were driving home with the kids the other night, and we saw one in the road, we promptly turned the car around and caught it (in the rain, no less) so our kids could experience examining the slimy little thing. It was funny when we put it in the bathtub. Mason wanted to pour cups of water over him to make sure he didn't dry out, and Ava kept saying, "Kitty!" Needless to say, they loved it. They named him "Leo". After about 30 minutes of what I'm sure the frog would call torture, we let him go in our front courtyard. Mase was sad to see him go but happy that he could go back to his family. It just made me excited for all of the things we get to experience with our kids in the coming years. But now that I'm an adult, snakes are a lot less "cool" and A LOT more repulsive, so I hope the kids bring home a cute little bunny instead.

That's awesome! Our thing was lizards. They were all over my parents backyard...still are. Jaden is afraid of the, but Kam likes to chase them and try to catch them. You've inspired me to go catch a frog next time we head up north.
